The feed check valve is one of the most important components of a boiler. Its primary function is to control the flow of water from the feed pump to the boiler and, crucially, to prevent the backflow of water from the boiler to the pump when the boiler pressure is greater than the pump pressure or when the feed pump stops working.
Working Principle
During normal operation, the internal valve (CV, or check valve) of the feed check valve is lifted due to the pressure of water from the feed pump, allowing water to be fed into the boiler.
When the pump stops working, the pump pressure drops below the boiler pressure. At this point, the higher boiler pressure automatically forces the valve (CV) closed, thus preventing the backflow of high-pressure water from the boiler into the pump.
It is very important to check that the non-return valve (CV) inside the feed check valve is in good condition, as it is subjected to automatic upward and downward movement due to fluctuations in the feed water pressures. The valve CV can be inspected for repair by fully closing the main feed valve (FV). If the boiler is in operation, it must be ensured that there is sufficient water in the boiler before such inspection or repair work on the feed check valve is undertaken.
FAQs for Cast Iron IBR Certified Accessible Feed Check Valve:
Q1: How does a feed check valve help maintain safe boiler operation?
A feed check valve ensures that water enters the boiler safely while preventing backflow, helping maintain stable pressure and protecting the boiler from potential damage.
Q2: Is a cast iron feed check valve suitable for high-pressure steam applications?
Yes, a cast iron feed check valve with IBR certification is designed to handle high-pressure steam lines, offering reliable performance and compliance with boiler safety standards.
Q3: What maintenance is required for a feed check valve in industrial systems?
Routine maintenance of a feed check valve includes inspecting the internal components, checking for wear, and ensuring the valve opens and closes smoothly to maintain proper flow control.
Q4: Can a feed check valve be easily accessed for cleaning and repairs?
Yes, an accessible feed check valve is built for quick inspection and servicing, allowing operators to clean or replace parts without dismantling the entire pipeline.
