What is a Cast Iron Butterfly Valve?
A Cast Iron Butterfly Valve is a quarter-turn valve commonly used for on-off or modulating services. Lightweight, compact, and cost-effective, these valves are available in large orifice sizes and provide quick operation for various industrial applications.
The butterfly is a disc connected to a rod. When the valve opens, the disc rotates to allow fluid to pass through. Closing the valve rotates the disc perpendicular to the flow direction, effectively stopping fluid movement.
Wafer-Style Cast Iron Butterfly Valve
The wafer-style design is the most cost-effective option. It is sandwiched between two pipe flanges, with long bolts passing through the valve body to connect the flanges. This ensures bi-directional sealing and prevents backflow in systems designed for universal flow.
Some wafer-style valves feature flange holes outside the valve body. Combined with gaskets, O-rings, and flat valve faces, this ensures efficient sealing for various applications.

Methods of Operation
